Kojima Productions is releasing Death Stranding for iPhone, iPad and Mac soon, with the game already on sale for early buyers. The new port of Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic “strand-type” adventure will be released on January 30, 2024, available at a special introductory price of $19.99 USD.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut was announced for Apple’s ecosystem last year during the iPhone 15’s unveiling. Thanks to the new gaming capabilities of the A17 Pro chip powering the iPhone 15 Pro, many console games are now getting ported to the platform. Last year we saw Capcom release two surprisingly polished ports of Resident Evil Village and RE4 for the iPhone. After Death Stranding, the next major console gaming coming to the iPhone will be Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

iPhone users will get their hands on not just the base game, but also a slew of extra content in Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. The extra content includes crossover content from Valve’s Half-Life series, Cyberpunk 2077, a firing range, a racetrack and more missions. Death Stranding will make use of Apple’s MetalFX upscaling feature for optimised performance and image quality and is also set to include a “high frame-rate” mode. Given that both Resident Evil games on iPhone struggled to run above 30fps, don’t expect Death Stranding’s iPhone port to offer a console-like performance.

What’s surprising is that this will make Xbox the only major platform to not offer the expanded Director’s Cut version. However, as Hideo Kojima is working with Microsoft to develop his new game (OD), one has to wonder how long it will take for the Death Stranding remaster to be released on Xbox consoles.

Of course, not all iPhone or Mac users will be able to play the game. If you’re planning to play Death Stranding on your Apple devices, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • iPhone - Requires iOS 17.0 or later with A17 Pro Chip or above
  • iPad - Requires iPadOS 17.0 or later with M1 Chip or above
  • Mac - Required macOS 12 or later with M1 Chip or above

You’ll also need to clear up a good chunk of storage space as the game will come in at a hefty 69.8 GB install size. The iOS version of the game is also cross-platform compatible, so you can play the game on all Apple devices with a single purchase.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is available on PC and PS5, with the iOS/mac version releasing on January 30, 2024.
