Update (Dec. 20, 2023): It's confirmed – DNF Duel is now free to claim on the Epic Games Store for 24 hours, so go grab it while it's hot.

Original (Dec. 20, 2023): Giveaway season at the Epic Games Store looks to continue today with fighting game DNF Duel, according to the ever reliable insider billbil-kun. If he’s right – and that’s usually the case – the title is going to be available for free on EGS starting today, December 20, 2023, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT / 5pm CET and will remain so until the next mystery game is revealed. A brand-new countdown on EGS is going to tell us when exactly we can expect that to happen.

Co-developed by a studio triumvirate consisting of Arc System Works, Eighting, and Neople and published by Nexon, DNF Duel is a Dungeon & Fighter spin-off that was released in 2022 for PC, PS4, and PS5 with a Nintendo Switch port following this year.

It has received good reviews in general, garnering a score of 79 (PC) and 80 (PS5) on Metacritic, though Steam users rate the game a good deal lower, giving it “Mixed” reviews. This is mostly due to the low number of players on the platform, which is obviously not ideal for a game that is largely about PvP. The lack of crossplay in DNF Duel has been criticized at launch and this is one of the reasons for it – crossplay can be a massive countermeasure against a dwindling player population, as it at least keeps things active enough for hardcore players.

It looks like anyone playing on Steam may have to migrate over to EGS for this one, since the game being free should generate at least a short term boost of player numbers over there.

The game has a single-player campaign, but it’s widely regarded as not very strong or filled with enough content to keep players entertained for long.

DNF Duel is likely replacing the three free Destiny 2 expansions on EGS currently on offer. The Witch Queen, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep, which contain a ton of content for the free-to-play shooter, are up for grabs – until December 20, 2023, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT / 5pm CET, that is, so be sure to claim them before the offer runs out.
