Update (28.04.2023): EA Sports has revealed Konnersport Racing Team as part of F1 23's story mode, though more details are to follow on May 1, 2023.

Original (28.04.2023): It’s about time we got an official announcement for the release date of F1 23 and some details to go with it, and it looks like EA Sports has planned exactly that for April 28, 2023. A livestream on the publisher’s YouTube channel is planned for today at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST, which will be hosted by racing driver and F1 presenter Naomi Schiff and streamer Durk Chocolate.

All of the social media channels for EA Sports F1 – the YouTube channel linked above, Twitter, and Instagram – have been rebranded as an account for Konnersport Racing Team, which is being sponsored by Butler Global. For those not familiar with Formula 1: That’s not an actual team participating in the series, it’s a fictional addition.

Any fan of previous F1 games will be familiar with the name Butler, however: Devon Butler has been the antagonist in a few campaigns of the series so far, such as in F1 2019 and in F1 21’s lauded Braking Point story mode. Having his rich family come in to sponsor a team would totally be a Devon Butler move.

EA Sports wants to reveal more about Konnersport Racing Team during the stream, but a little teaser on social media is already giving us some exciting hints: the video shows the numbers 71 and 89. Devon Butler has used 71 during his previous appearances in the F1 games, while the protagonist of Braking Point, Aiden Jackson, used 89 in F1 21.

It looks like the team sponsored by what seems like Butler’s family will have both of the young rivals drive for it – and that certainly harbors the potential for an explosive story exploring the relationship on and off track between these two characters. After F1 22’s lack of a story mode, fans of singleplayer racing campaigns might be in luck with F1 23.

We’ll find out more during today’s livestream, which is set to happen a bit after F1’s qualifying session in Baku, Azerbaijan, which is going to set the grid order for the race on Sunday.
