Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gets a flashy trailer at The Game Awards 2023
Upcoming JRPG Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth got a brand-new trailer at The Game Awards 2023, bringing fans of the franchise another look at the title. Rebirth is the second installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy transporting the classic from 1997 to the PS5.
Apex Legends is also having a crossover with Final Fantasy 7 starting on January 9, 2024.

It sure looks like the Final Fantasy 7 you know and love from the first part of the Remake trilogy, and that’s because literally everything about Rebirth is the same – same tech, same goals, and same development team. Rebirth will capitalize on the systems introduced with Remake like the Synergized mechanic. That, again, seems logical: The title has been in production since before its predecessor was released.
In addition to the trailer, the game’s vocal theme was revealed at The Game Awards with a live performance by singer Loren Allred. Allred competed in The Voice in 2012 with Adam Levine as her coach and was the singing voice for Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman, which earned her a Billboard Hot 100 appearance for both the soundtrack and one of her singles in January 2018.
Naturally, Rebirth sets right in where Remake ended (a breathtaking escape from Midgar) and will continue the story of Cloud Strife and his band of eco-terrorists, who want to stop an evil megacorporation from exploiting the world’s life force – which includes confronting the iconic Sephiroth.
FF7 has a special place in the hearts of many fans and is often called the entry into the series with the greatest cultural impact. It’s credited with bringing RPGs on consoles closer to the mainstream, expanding the genre’s audience. As of January 2023, over 14 million copies have been sold.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set for a February 29, 2024, release date on PS5. It’s a timed exclusive for three months on the console, so it’s possible that we’ll hear news about a PC port from developer Square Enix afterwards.
