You can slumber in that cryosleep a little longer, because Frostpunk 2 will be coming out in 2024 for PC. Set 30 years after the events of 2018’s society survival hit, Frostpunk 2 once again tests not only your survival and exploration skills, but also challenges you to manage a very quickly changing society that is under a lot of pressure and stress.

Coal is no longer the leading energy resource in Frostpunk 2, instead it’s all about oil – and that brings new opportunities as well as challenges for rebuilding society in the frozen wastes of this post-apocalyptic world.

Jakub Stokalski, the game’s co-director, described the studio’s aspirations for sequel as follows: “Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor – survival vs. human values, life vs. the arctic frost. But most importantly, it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, society or technological progress – the conflict between humans and their nature.”

It’ll be up to players to decide what approach to politics they’ll take: Machiavellian ruthlessness or a willingness to compromise in the name of harmony? Whatever you end up choosing, you must be prepared to make great sacrifices in the name of survival once more.

The original game launched in 2018 and received fantastic reviews from critics and users alike, being hailed as one of the best survival city-builders to date. It managed to sell three million copies in as many years and was nominated for several awards, including “Best Narrative” at 2019’s BAFTAs.
