You would be forgiven for thinking that the Genshin Impact Overture Teaser: The Final Feast is actually a trailer for the Genshin Impact anime, but you’d be wrong – it’s one hell of a hype piece for version 4.0 of the RPG, which is set to be launched in August 2023. It’s our first proper look at the characters of the Fontaine arc and gives us some hints as to what we can expect in terms of themes and stories.

The video begins ominously: We see a character sink down into the dark blue depths of the sea with a female voiceover saying that “the original sin is the fairest: everyone sinks.”

“Make the most of the final feast, because for the sinners, the curtain call has come,” she goes on. We then get a switch to our first two Fontaine characters, the siblings Lyney and Lynette – two stage performers. Lyney’s voice can be heard over the next couple of scenes, explaining what’s likely to be a major theme in the upcoming story arc: that magic is just the art of making people see what you want them to see instead of what’s actually there.

By the looks of it, the Traveler will be the center of a massive sham performance in Fontaine, which involves the entire state apparatus of the land of justice, from its police to its infamous court – and all seems to be orchestrated by Arlecchino, one of the Fatui Harbingers, who has a prominent place in the trailer.

Watch the Genshin Impact Overture Teaser: The Final Feast here:

After Arlecchino's ominous appearance, we get a cut to Fontaine's famous courtroom, which aptly looks like a theater or opera house, a fitting stage for what's supposed to be a grand performance. We see the Hydro Archon, Focalors, hold up a burning photo and being called to order by the court's judge, an authoritative male figure visible earlier on in the trailer with the stylish female nicknamed Captain R, who wields a flintlock pistol firing Electro bullets.

Here are all the new characters we spotted in the video:

Freminet

  • VA: Paul Castro Jr.

This has been confirmed to be Freminet, a sibling of Lyney and Lynette. A renowned diver in Fontaine, Freminet seems to have run into trouble.

The female voice speaking during this section is VA Courtney Steele in the role of Egeria, who we haven't seen so far. Egeria is a figure from Roman mythology. She's a nymph who was the lover and advisor to one of Rome's early kings.

Lynette and Lyney

  • VA (Lynette): Anairis Quiñones
  • VA (Lyney): Daman Mills

Lynette and Lyney are two siblings and perform magic track on stage. Lyney gives us a monologue during the trailer, explaining what's likely to be a major theme in the arc coming up.

Navia

HoYoverse
  • VA: Brenna Larsen

Going by the list of dramatis personae HoYoverse provided, this classy lady should be Navia. She definitely looks to be from the upper echelons of society, sporting rich clothes and jewelry (though remember Lyney's words: everything we see is a show and not real). She can also be seen flying around with a parasol in the Mary Poppins style.

Charlotte

HoYoverse
  • VA: Maya Aoki Tuttle

We already met journalist Charlotte during Genshin Impact 3.7's main event, but this should be the confirmation that she's going to be playable and that we'll meet her again soon.

Sigewinne and Wriothesley

HoYoverse
  • VA (Sigewinne): Sarah Williams
  • VA (Wriothesley): Joe Zieja

What a pairing this one is. A chibi bunny girl character (probably Sigewinne) is sat next to this male fusing a goth and office look (likely Wriothesley). He's sipping coffee or tea as he goes through reports, with the bunny girl trying to get him to drink the same thing she does. He humors her a bit by pretending not to see through her deception at first.

Clorinde

HoYoverse
  • VA: Crystal Lee

This is the infamous Captain R from the leaks, a badass female character named Clorinde that can be seen in the company of the judge. She wields a flintlock pistol that fires off an Electro bullet, so that should confirm her element.

Arlecchino

HoYoverse
  • VA: Erin Yvette

Arlecchino looks to be the instigator of all the trouble – or the performance – that'll play out in Fontaine. With all the focus on twists and illusions, though, there's likely to be something else going on as well. We wouldn't be surprised if Arlecchino just ends up being an actor in someone else's play despite believing that she's the director.

Focalors / Furina

Genshin Impact Fontaine character design Focalors.
HoYoverse
  • VA: Amber Lee Connors

This should be Focalors, the Hydro Archon. She's the god of justice and leader of Fontaine. Apparently, she's grown a bit bored over the years and is waiting for an exciting court case – unfortunately for the Traveler, who's probably going to be the center of that one.

Neuvillette

Genshin Impact Fontaine character design.
HoYoverse
  • VA: Ray Chase

This character sits in the judge's seat of Fontaine's great courthouse. He calls Focalors to order, so at least in court he seems to have equal power to the Archon. He can be seen walking with Clorinde earlier on in the trailer as well in what looked like a jail.

With so many awesome designs and what looks to be a gripping story, Fontaine can't come soon enough. First up, though, is Genshin Impact 3.8 with a summer event and the return of Eula.
