God of War live-action series to go ahead on Amazon
A God of War TV series is coming to Amazon Prime, with Wheel of Time boss Rafe Judkins as showrunner.
The series will follow the story of the 2018 game and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok. Kratos has fled Ancient Greece and hung up his weapons in the Norse land of Midgard when his wife dies, sending him on an epic quest with his estranged son, Atreus.
Mark Fergus (Iron Man) and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men) are working on the series as writers and executive producers. Sony Santa Monica's creative director, Cory Barlog, will also executive produce alongside Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, as well as Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.
“God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling,” Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, said, via Variety.
“We are honored to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Santa Monica Studio.”
This news lands ahead of the launch of the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us, another PlayStation property, which is planned to air in January 2023.
