It’s the end of an era for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game: CD Projekt Red has published its final balance update for the title on October 18, 2023, and is now stopping to actively develop content for it. This move had already been announced last year by the Polish developer.

Gwent’s online servers will keep running, which means players will still be able to enjoy the card game, but no fresh content and no official balance changes will be coming. CDPR instead opted to give the community itself control over the game’s balance by founding a balance council that consists of all Gwent players on at least Prestige 1 and with either pro rank or 25 ranked wins in the current season, so they need to be active in the game. At least 50 votes will be required for changes to be implemented on chosen cards – you can read more about the whole system on CDPR’s FAQ page about it.

Active support for Gwent is ending, but that doesn't mean the fun has to as well / CD Projekt Red

Gwent is mentioned in the source materials for The Witcher and debuted as an in–game card game in The Witcher 3, where it proved incredibly popular. CDPR then developed a standalone version of it based on the one in The Witcher 3, which was released in 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One with subsequent launches on iOS, Android, and Mac.
