It’s been quiet around Supergiant Games’ upcoming roguelike Hades 2, which was announced during The Game Awards 2022. Back then, the developer promised to update people on plans for the game’s Early Access phase sometime in 2023 and it finally made good on that.

It’s been confirmed that Hades 2 will be playable on PC in Q2 of 2024 through Early Access on Steam and Epic Games Store.

Supergiant Games stated that the Early Access launch of Hades 2 will feature at least as much content as the original Hades did back when it was released in Early Access. If you still cannot wait for this release date to arrive, you may be keen on getting into one of the technical tests that are set to happen before Early Access launch in 2024. Though this test will contain much less content, it’ll be the first opportunity to get hands-on with the title. More details on the sign-up process will be forthcoming.

The studio also offered some insight on why it chose an Early Access development process once again – and that’s a fair question, after all you could argue that a sequel to Hades should already be quite well defined without the help of the community. However, Supergiant seems to believe that the changes made in Hades 2 compared to the original are large enough to make this extended period of gathering feedback and refining the game necessary.

“We'll have several Major Updates adding the rest of the game's core content and refining what's there based on player feedback,” the development diary stated. “The story will expand with each update, as we introduce more characters, and deepen relationships with existing ones. This process will culminate in our v1.0 launch, which will feature the conclusion to the story and any other finishing touches.”

As for the duration of Hades 2’s Early Access phase, Supergiant Games doesn’t quite know yet: “Our experience developing in Early Access has taught us (among many things) to expect the unexpected.”

The developers promised that any save data accumulated through Early Access would still be viable in the final version of the game.

Hades 2 will eventually be available on consoles as well as PC, though no details on the platforms have been revealed.
