HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 has found its Dina: Isabela Merced has been cast in what’s going to be an important role, Warner Bros. confirmed.

Though she’s not playable outside of the No Return mode, Dina is a crucial character in Ellie’s story in The Last of Us Part 2, which makes her one of the most important new faces for the upcoming season of the drama show. Her role’s official description calls her “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.”

“Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable. You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family,” said the show’s co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Merced made her name as a young actress in the Nickelodeon show 100 Things to Do Before High School before landing roles in large films like Transformers: The Last Knight and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. She played the titular character in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which is the last role she’s been credited for under her birth name of Isabela Moner, and was one of the two main characters in Sweet Girl alongside Jason Momoa.

Yesterday, HBO announced that Young Mazino would play Jesse in The Last of Us Season 2, which itself followed the reveal that Kaitlyn Dever had been cast as Abby.

There are currently also rumors around a The Last of Us spin-off series being in development. Supposedly, this would dive into the backstory of Bill and Frank, a pair of doomed lovers who appeared in one of the most beloved episodes of the first season of the show.
