How deep does this conspiracy go?

Not a day goes by without some curious news from the many fronts of Helldivers 2, where brave troops defend space democracy from countless threats. After players were successfully able to gain access to a powerful exosuit by defending a factory planet from the automaton onslaught, a new type of Terminid seems to have been discovered – a flying subspecies called Shriekers.

These aren’t just wild rumors, as there is plenty of footage online proving their existence by now. This is truly grave news for the men and women fighting for Super Earth, but should be nothing they can’t handle thanks to their outstanding courage and equipment.

Much more devastating to the morale of the common soldiers are reports of blue laser beams being used to snipe unwitting troops from afar. Eyewitness reports and footage from different sources appears to confirm these mysterious events.

Any veteran from the first Helldivers game will be quite familiar with blue laser beams, of course, and identify them as being caused by Illuminate snipers. The Illuminate are another alien species in the Helldivers universe and – like the Terminids resemble the Zerg from StarCraft or Tyranids from Warhammer 40,000 – are basically the equivalent of StarCraft’s Protoss. They are old and technologically advanced, using beam weapons and teleportation.

This is exactly why players believe that the Illuminate are behind these sniping attacks using blue laser beams.

However, the highest levels of government are denying their existence outright. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt posted on social media that “Blue beams aren't real, [they] can't hurt you.”

Bad news, patriots: Your government may have already been infiltrated by the aliens.

Jokes aside, Arrowhead is doing a fantastic job at keeping players engaged and immersed in the world of Helldivers 2 by teasing new content without any prior communications – it keeps alive a sense of wonder and discovery for the community, which has to keep asking itself what may be next. Whether it’s unlocking new weapons through completing an overarching in-game objective or finding new types of enemies by chance, Helldivers 2 is keeping its players on their toes.

We’d advise you to keep an eye out for attacks from above for the time being – and just to be sure, look out for those blue laser beams. Surely, the truth must be out there.
