Honkai: Star Rail triumphs at Google Play and App Store awards
While everyone’s looking forward to see who wins out at The Game Awards 2023 in the colossal clash between Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, HoYoverse took center stage at the mobile game awards given out by Google and Apple under the label of their respective stores. The anime-inspired turn-based space RPG Honkai: Star Rail, which launched earlier this year, was crowned as the best game overall on Google Play Store as well as the best iPhone game on the App Store.
In Google’s awards, Honkai: Star Rail additionally took home the trophies for best story, notably beating Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis, and best game for tablets, defeating Marvel Snap.
Familiar names appear in the best indies category, which Vampire Survivors won, and best games for good, where Pokémon Sleep nicked victory. Stumble Guys, a pretty blatant Fall Guys rip-off, took best ongoing game ahead of giants like Clash of Clans and EA Sports FC Mobile.
In Apple’s awards, HoYoverse was able to “just” grab the best iPhone game award with its latest release.
Other noteworthy victors here include Lies of P – the Soulslike RPG from NEOWIZ was crowned as the best Mac game of the year – and Unpacking, which was honored for its cultural impact along with Finding Hannah and a few other apps.
Honkai: Star Rail is nominated for best mobile game at The Game Awards, while HoYoverse’s flagship Genshin Impact once again competes in the best ongoing game category. Both titles appear in the Players’ Voice voting as well.
HoYoverse sometimes gives out free in-game currency to players for important milestones like big award victories and this seems to be the case this time as well: Players will receive 800 Stellar Jade via in-game mail on December 1, 2023. That's quite a generous amount.
