Immortals of Aveum, the next game published by EA Originals and debut work of indie developer Ascendant Studios, has a new release date: It will be launched on August 22, 2023. Originally, it was supposed to be released around a month earlier, on July 20, 2023. It’ll be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

“Your reactions to Immortals of Aveum over the past few weeks has been incredibly inspiring,” a statement released by studio founder and game director Bret Robbins reads.

It continues: “As you know, this is our first game as a self-funded independent studio. We set out five years ago to ambitiously make an original magic first-person shooter in a new fantasy world. Along the way, we worked through a pandemic, built a new team, developed on Unreal Engine 5.1 and pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible. Now, the finish line is in sight.”

However, the team wants “to take a few extra weeks” in order to “further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right.”

In the meantime, check out our interviews with lead designers Dave Bogan and Julia Lichtblau about how Immortals of Aveum’s antagonist came to be and UI designer Jim Ingraham about how the crew reacted to all the memes coming from the game’s release at a PlayStation event. We’ve also had some hands-on experience with the battle mage FPS you can read up on.

Set in an original world that mixes traditional fantasy with a dose of science fiction, Immortals of Aveum casts you in the role of a battle mage fighting in a devastating war for control of the ley lines – and magic itself.
