Like a Dragon Gaiden release date leaked by PlayStation Store scraper
The release date for Yakuza side story game Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name has seemingly been leaked by PS Deals, a website that scrapes PlayStation Store listings. The listing scraped by the site includes the release date, full synopsis, and a number of screenshots for the game.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is a side story for the Like A Dragon series, formerly called Yakuza, and is set in between Yakuza 6 and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. The game was announced in September 2022, alongside a remaster of Like a Dragon Ishin and Like a Dragon 8.
At the time of announcement, it was given a vague “2023” release window, but the lack of news since then had fans worried it had slipped into next year. According to PS Deals, though, the game will release on November 9, 2023.
Now, it’s entirely possible this information is inaccurate, or even fake, but the screenshots included in the page look pretty damn convincing. There’s also a pretty in-depth description on the page, including details of the story, the combat styles, and side activities like karaoke — a Yakuza series tradition.
Here’s a snippet of the story description:
Once a legendary yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu faked his own death and abandoned his name for the sake of protecting his family. Now, he is thrust into conflict by a mysterious figure attempting to drive him out of hiding.
Under the codename “Joryu,” Kiryu embarks on a gripping action narrative with bone-shattering combat in vibrant locations filled with exciting characters and activities.
It’s likely the game’s release date will be announced next week, during the RGG Summit on June 15. We’ll also likely see a snippet of the upcoming Like a Dragon 8, though that’s not expected to be released until late next year at the earliest. LaD 8 will see the return of Ichiban, from Yakuza Like A Dragon, as well as Kiryu, from all the Yakuza games prior, who retired at the end of Yakuza 6 but made a brief appearance in Like A Dragon.
It’s also possible we’ll see new information about either or both games later tonight, during the Summer Game Fest presentation, or elsewhere during this holiest of Not-E3 seasons. You can find the full schedule for Not-E3 here.
