Wired Productions and LKA are working with Studios Extraordinaires to make the hit horror game Martha is Dead into a movie. The Martha is Dead movie is currently in active production, though Wired and LKA didn’t say when filming will wrap or indicate a potential release date.

Martha is Dead is the latest in a string of video game movie adaptations, though since storytelling and psychological trauma are integral to the project, it seems like a potentially better fit for an adaptation compared to, say, Gran Turismo or the Twisted Metal TV series.

“The game's gripping narrative and unique setting make it a perfect candidate for a film adaptation,” Leo Zullo, Wired Productions’ managing director said in a statement. “We're thrilled to join forces with Studios Extraordinaires to create a landmark cinematic experience, merging the artistry of gaming and filmmaking in an unprecedented way.”

“Martha Is Dead is a narrative masterpiece, expertly weaving a spellbinding murder mystery from a young woman’s perspective in a way that’s never been done before,” André Hedetoft and Andreas Troedsson of Studios Extraordinaires said. “We’re eager to bring this haunting tale to life, offering both fans and newcomers a cinematic tour-de-force, while staying true to the game’s soul-stirring essence.”

Martha is Dead is set in 1944 Italy and follows Giulia, a young woman trying to uncover the mystery behind her twin sister Martha’s death. Critics praised Martha is Dead for how it handles trauma and grief, even if the actual murder mystery part of the plot gets lost in the psychological horror.
