Oftentimes physical game discs merely contain a launcher to download the majority of the data nowadays, requiring an online connection to play. Insomniac Games is going against this trend and has confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be playable without online connection from its disc – no updates will be required.

However, the development studio still recommends owners of the physical version of the game to download update 1.001.002, which will be available on launch day. Anyone buying the game’s digital version gets that patch automatically from the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 preload.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is launching soon.

“The disc contains the entire game and is playable from start to finish with no patch nor online requirement. But for the best experience, we highly encourage physical/disc-based players to download update version 1.001.002 on launch day,” the developer stated.

Insomniac wrote that this patch “features polish to the gold master version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 available on disc, which improves opening sections of the game and includes other general refinements to your Spidey experience, including some additional Accessibility Options.”

For a detailed look at what you can expect from this PS5 exclusive, you can read our Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review, which states: “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t do anything that blows you away, but it doesn’t matter when a game plays, looks, and sounds as good as this. It’s an improvement over the first game and proves how polished and slick a sequel can be when the developer is free to revisit and refine on top of solid foundations.”

After Spider-Man, another superhero is on Insomniac Games’ agenda – the ferocious Wolverine.
