Insomniac Games certainly slung its webs around a great many players: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has officially been declared the “fastest selling PlayStation studios game in PlayStation history” by the platform’s official social media. Over 2.5 million copies of the action-adventure game have been sold in the first 24 hours after launch, Sony stated.

It’s the third game by Insomniac featuring the superhero in the tight skinsuit after the original Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Miles Morales spin-off, both of which have been received well in their time. This good reputation certainly helped the studio out now – more decisive, probably, was that Insomniac did one hell of a job with the game.

Reviews for the title are glowing – our own Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 review is no different in that regard – and the team clearly put a ton of effort and passion into the project, as our Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 tech interview has shown, which dives into the spectacular visuals of the title.

Additional excitement has been generated by the fact that players get to take control of the popular Venom, which has fueled hopes about a Venom spin-off. Even though that’s surely not off the table, going by what the developers have said, their post-launch support for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with New Game Plus and other features comes first. Afterwards, they already have the next superhero game lined up with Marvel’s Wolverine, for which the work on Spidey provided valuable insights and lessons, as senior game director Ryan Smith told GLHF.

Insomniac Games really delivered once again with this title, which is one of the few big-budget games this year to launch without any major technical deficits – great news for the studio, Sony, and PS5 players out there enjoying the game right now.
