Tony Todd, who is the voice actor of Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, claimed on Twitter that the superhero title from Insomniac Games is set for a September 2023 release date. He expects a big marketing push to begin in August to advertise the game, which would go up against Starfield within that time frame, setting the stage for a battle between Microsoft and Sony exclusives.

“Looks like September! Massive publicity coming in august. Commercials start dropping in august so I’m told. Hold on to your … and hold breath! Gonna be necessary,” Todd wrote in response to a fan saying that the game can’t come out quick enough.

Insomniac Games has been keeping quiet about the project for a while now, though it was known to target a release date in the second half of 2023.

Todd was not told to delete his post up to this point, though he followed it up a bit later by posting a picture of himself in a pool of water, his mouth being kept below the waterline. “No more hints about #Spiderman2 it was all a fever dream Blame it on jet lag who knows I might not even b #Venom,” he commented. “My lips are now underwater.”

Spider-Man 2 is the sequel to Insomniac’s popular Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales video games, which followed the successor to the titular web-slinging hero, and will be exclusive to the PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man sold over 20 million copies, making it the best-selling PS4 game in the platform’s history.

Both titles eventually were released on PC as well after some time has passed, though there is no news about that yet when it comes to the upcoming title.

September is also when Bethesda’s next RPG epic, Starfield, is scheduled for release as a PC and Xbox Series X|S exclusive. This potentially sets up a direct face-off between the two rivals
