Max Payne 1 & 2 remake ready to enter production
In a quarterly update to investors issued on Tuesday, the developer of Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment, confirmed that the project to remake Max Payne 1 & 2 has “progressed into the production readiness stage.”
“We have gained clarity on the style and scope of the game, and we have an exceptionally well-organized team working on it. With these accomplishments, we are excited about the project and its future success,” the developer notes.
Remedy Entertainment first announced that it would be remaking the iconic Max Payne games back in April 2022.
Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne will be remade as a single new title under a development agreement with Rockstar Games. The remake will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar, known for the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, will finance the remake project, which according to the initial announcement, will have a typical Remedy triple-A production budget.
The relationship between Rockstar and Remedy dates back to the first Max Payne, which was developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games in 2001.
Max Payne and its sequel Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne have been a pop culture staple ever since their release and have been praised for their great storytelling, influential neo-noir visual style and interesting gameplay featuring Matrix-like “bullet-time” gunplay.
