MultiVersus characters hit the ice with the NHL’s top stars
TNT Sports, Warner Bros. Games, and the NHL are teaming up for a different kind of hockey game, one where MultiVersus characters take the place of the sports’ best and brightest. Sort of. The MultiVersus NHL Face-Off uses NHL’s Edge and Hawk Eye technology to recreate real-life players’ movements using some of the fighting games’ most popular characters, including Batman, Velma, and Shaggy.
The MultiVersus NHL Face-Off airs on April 14, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on truTV and HBO Max’s sports add-on. The MultiVersus teams will imitate the Colorado Avalanche and Las Vegas Golden Knights, and an animated draft selection on April 7, 2024, airing during TNT’s postgame coverage of the Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabers game, will decide who ends up on which team.
Representing the fighting game are:
- Velma
- Shaggy
- Batman
- Bugs Bunny
- Superman
- Wonder Woman
- Finn the Human
- Steven Universe
They’ll act as avatars for the likes of Cale Makar, who is no stranger to video game crossovers thanks to his stint as EA Sports NHL 24 cover star, Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Eichel, and Jonathan Marchessault, among others.
The Tasmanian Devil will drop the puck and act as referee, and the match takes place in a changing arena inspired by MultiVersus’ Space Jam, Sky Arena, Trophy E.D.G.E., and Adventure Time arenas. Pittsburgh Penguins play-by-play voice Steve Mears is on commentary for the match, along with former wing player Colby Armstrong, both of whom will provide in-depth analysis of the MultiVersus match during its intermissions.
And if you’re keen on more MultiVersus after that, you don’t have long to wait. Warner Bros. is gearing up for MultiVersus’ full release on May 28, 2024.
