Palworld cracks 7 million sales in 5 days – excluding Game Pass
Pocketpair’s astounding success with Palworld continues unabated with a new sales milestone and concurrent player record being reached seemingly every day. Some doubters attempted to relativize that success in recent days by questioning whether those sales numbers represented actual purchases or were simply an amalgamation of sales and Xbox Game Pass downloads.
That particular argument seems to have flown out of the window now: Palworld’s developer told Geoff Keighley, the man behind The Game Awards, that the game sold seven million copies in just five days on Steam alone – so yes, those milestones all excluded the player numbers from Game Pass.
Suffice to say: Palworld is an enormous financial success for the developer based in Tokyo, but that comes with its own challenges – as the studio admitted during its recent reveal of the official Palworld roadmap, “sales have far exceeded the development team's expectations, and we are currently experiencing many problems due to excessive access congestion, among other challenges.”
Solving these issues is the highest priority for the development team at the moment, which likely delayed its original plan for Early Access content and feature updates. Not that players mind – in the current honeymoon period, the developers can practically do no wrong. However, the speed and volume of content updates going forward are going to be critical to the game’s long term health and player retention. A honeymoon always ends, reality sets in, and the team better have solved all the teething issues by then.
For now, it’s best to enjoy the ride as Palworld has more than enough base content to keep you on your toes for a while. Learning about all Pal fusions and how to breed them alone will take a bit of time, but then there are Ancient Technology Points to be gathered, humans to be caught, and eggs to be hatched, among other things.
