Pokémon Go Tour Sinnoh to feature Dialga and Palkia Origin Formes

That’s their armless versions

Looks like Niantic made a little bit of an oopsie while revealing the upcoming Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh, which is set to take place in February 2024 with an offline event in Los Angeles and an online event for the rest of the world. Originally found on the event page was an image showing Pikachu and the three Sinnoh starters at the side of one Pokémon trainer, looking at Dialga and Palkia in the distance – but not the regular versions of the Legendaries are featured. Instead, it’s the Origin Formes of the two Dragon-types that are depicted on the promotional art. The image was quickly deleted, so it looks like Niantic wanted to keep that reveal in reserve for now.

Introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia essentially look like their regular versions minus their arms – a design decision that has not found popularity with all fans. They do look pretty goofy this way.

In any case, it looks like they will both be arriving as part of the event. The only question now is: Will they be treated in a similar fashion as their sibling Giratina, which is already present in the game in both its Altered and Origin Forme, or will Niantic implement the two through the Mega Evolution system like Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre?

Fans seem to have given up on getting actual form changing mechanics for all the Pokémon using that system in the main games, which Niantic has only implemented for very few species.

The two Origin Formes should be at least slight upgrades over their regular counterparts in most situations when it comes to PvE and PvP play, but that’ll mostly depend on the movesets Niantic will grant them.

Like previous Go Tour events, the Sinnoh version will allow players to choose between one of two editions of the event, slightly altering their experience. Naturally, these choices will be Pearl or Diamond to celebrate Gen 4.

Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh in Los Angeles will take place on February 17 and 18, 2024, while Pokémon Go Tour: Sinnoh Global will happen on February 24 and 25, 2024. Tickets to the live event cost $25 USD until December 31, 2023, after which they’ll be available for $30 USD. You can get them on the official website.
