Ubisoft has revealed a brand new Prince of Persia game at Summer Game Fest, and it might not be the Prince of Persia game you’re expecting. Rather than the much-delayed Prince of Persia Sands of Time remake, this is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is the first new Prince of Persia game in over 13 years, and according to GameSpot who went hands-on with the game, it’s being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the team behind Rayman Legends.

You’ll be playing as a new character, Sargon, who has a bunch of time-based abilities and seems to be very adept at fast, snappy combat with tons of acrobatics. There also seems to be a bunch of classic Prince of Persia exploration and platforming, though it’s obviously a lot faster-paced and stylish than previous games in the series.

Here’s how Ubisoft describes the game:

Dash into a stylish and thrilling action-adventure platformer set in a mythological Persian world where the boundaries of time and space are yours to manipulate. Play as Sargon and evolve from sword-wielding prodigy to extraordinary legend as you master acrobatic combat and unlock new Time Powers and unique super abilities.

And you can watch the full gameplay reveal trailer below:

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Amazon Luna on January 18, 2024.

More information about the game is set to be revealed at Ubisoft Forward next week, as part of the greater not-E3 celebrations.
