Sony confirms new PS5 models to launch in November 2023
It’s been an open secret for some time now that Sony plans on releasing new PS5 editions for the holiday season and now the manufacturer has finally let the cat out of the bag in an official manner: Sony will launch the refreshed PS5 in November 2023 in the United States. Players in the rest of the world will have to wait for “the following months” to get their hands on the new hardware.
The refreshed regular PS5 will cost $499.99 USD / £479.99 GBP / €549.99 EUR, while Digital Edition will be available for $449.99 USD / £389.99 GBP / €449.99 EUR.
For those in the US, this means that the new regular PS5 will be available for the same price as the launch version, while people in the UK and in Europe have to live with the increased prices from August 2022. However, the Digital Edition’s price is being raised in the US as well now: At launch, it went for $399.99 USD and was unaffected by the August 2022 price hike, now it got a 12.5% increase.
That’s still mild compared to the price increases in Japan, where a regular PS5 will cost 34% more than at launch and the Digital Edition 50% more.
People usually gain weight during the holidays, the PS5 loses it: Overall volume of the console will be reduced by 30% with the new model, Sony stated, weight going down by 18 to 24%.
Both the regular PS5 and the Digital Edition will come equipped with an internal 1TB SSD, giving them more storage capacity. There will also be an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for the Digital Edition, sold for $79.99 USD / £99.99 GBP / €119.99 EUR. Each model will come with a horizontal stand in its box, while vertical stands compatible with the fresh editions will be sold in a separate manner for $29.99 USD / £24.99 GBP / €29.99 EUR.
The consoles will be covered by four attachable panels with the standard color being white once again. Panels in other colors will start to be sold in early 2024.
