Rockstar confirmed that a PS4 and Nintendo Switch port of Red Dead Redemption is going to get a digital release on August 17, 2023, and a physical release on October 13, 2023, for a price of $49.99. This is going to be a port of the original game and Undead Nightmare, its zombie DLC, not a remake or remaster of the title – so don’t expect a whole host of visual improvements or new features to be included in this launch. Developed by Double Eleven Studios, this version of the game will be able to be played on the PS5 thanks to backward compatibility.

The game features expanded language support compared to the original, however, with Simplified and Traditional Mandarin, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish being available for the first time.

Rumors around this title surfaced a while ago and recently gained traction after the rating board of South Korea published its report on a new Red Dead Redemption game, which looked very much identical to its initial rating of the first title in the series. In July, a data miner spotted Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar Presents Version) as a new entry on the Rockstar website.

Originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, Red Dead Redemption followed the former outlaw John Marston on his adventures on the American frontier. Tasked by the government to hunt down his former associates and having his wife taken hostage to guarantee his good behavior, he traverses a fictionalized version of the Western US and Northern Mexico.

Played from a third-person perspective, the open-world game offers slow motion gunslinging and a morality system in addition to the typical Rockstar elements found in Grand Theft Auto as well – it was often called a GTA title set in the Wild West for a reason.

Selling over 23 million copies by 2021 and winning many Game of the Year awards, Red Dead Redemption was both a critical as well as commercial hit. A sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, came out in 2018.

This port of the original game will make it more widely available due to the broad user bases of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, enabling more players than ever to experience this classic.
