It’s a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one: Remnant and Remnant 2 have joined Xbox Game Pass as well as PC Game Pass, being now available to play for subscribers to the service without further cost.

Remnant 2 was released in July 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and is nominated for in the best action game category at The Game Awards. It’s been developed by Gunfire Games and published by Gearbox and mixes Soulslike elements with third-person shooter gameplay set in a dark sci-fantasy world. Both ranged and melee combat against monstrous enemies is available.

Selling over a million copies in under a week, Remnant 2 seems to have become a commercial as well as critical hit, being positively reviewed by users and media alike. With several pieces of DLC being planned for the game, bringing it to Xbox and PC Game Pass seems to be a smart move to generate an influx of new players for the base game, which in turn might be converted into paying customers for the expansion packs. The first of these, The Awakened King, launched earlier this month.

Our own Remnant 2 review lauded the design of the game’s world and atmosphere, which grabs players and doesn’t let them slip away again, but was much less impressed by the gameplay mechanics than most of the other reviews. Remnant 2 is definitely geared towards replayability: Many of the shooter’s archetype classes must be unlocked first by deciphering the title’s secrets – which is actually very difficult, in contrast to many other modern games, which present “secrets” on the silver platter.

We’ve got some advice on which classes to pick for a solo playthrough or for a co-op run, so check out our best Remnant 2 classes guide and learn how to unlock secondary classes.
