EA and Maxis gradually improved how The Sims 4 handled representation since the High School Years expansion, giving players more control over how their Sims look and interact with each other, and the latest Sims 4 update is another step forward. The new update adds Vitiligo options to the Create-A-Sim menu and a collaboration with model Winnie Harlow, where you can download her home from the Sims 4 gallery.

Vitiligo is an auto-immune disorder where the body attacks and destroys cells that produce melanin, which results in loss of skin pigmentation.

Fans think The Sims 4 on Switch may happen soon

“It’s magical to see The Sims 4 team introduce this new Vitiligo feature,” Harlow said. “As a child, I spent a lot of time playing The Sims and I think it’s so beautiful to be able to represent your true self in-game. This partnership is a powerful statement encouraging players to embrace what makes them unique – both in-game and in real life.”

Once you install the free, new Sims 4 update, you’ll find Vitiligo options in the Create-A-Sim menu while making your Sim for the first time or adjusting their appearance in a mirror. Maxis said their concept artist and art director worked together to create unique patterns for Sims’ faces, arms, legs, and torso, and the affected skin’s shade will vary depending on the unaffected skin’s color and hue.

Maxis’ art team created 61 Vitiligo patterns for all body types and ages, and some patterns have several variants that affect the degree of color change.

Meanwhile, the collaboration with Winnie Harlow worked with The Sims 4 team to create a Sims version of her home in Hollywood, which you can download from The Sims 4 gallery and put in your world.
