Sons of the Forest early access has broken Steam
Sons of the Forest early access on Steam is live now, but rollout isn’t going so smoothly at the moment. Endnight Games’ long-awaited sequel to their cult classic horror game entered early access instead of launching in a fully finished form, but the demand for it was still high enough that Valve’s servers couldn’t deal with the pressure.
The site is generally functioning as normal for other, non-Sons purchases. However, if you try buying Sons of the Forest, you’ll likely run into a range of errors and flat-out crashes. The site breaks completely sometimes, or it won’t add the game to your cart. If you do finally luck out and manage to have Sons of the Forest in your cart, you probably won’t make it to checkout without it disappearing or seeing one of Valve’s sad gremlins show up with an apology for the inconvenience.
Meanwhile, fans took to Twitter and Reddit with memes and videos about the problem. Despite the frustration, most of them have been good-natured, if slightly annoyed, in tone.
One Reddit user even said it’s a good thing for the developers.
Others agreed, but said it might be nice if Steam could just be prepared for major launches and avoid these situations to begin with. Sons of the Forest only just launched in early access on PC, so Endnight and Valve haven’t acknowledged the issue or proposed a solution.
