Russian hackers threaten Stalker 2 leak if devs don’t unban them
At least one Russian hacker has reportedly obtained Stalker 2’s story and cutscenes and is threatening to leak them if Ukraine-based developer GSC Game World doesn’t agree to their demands. The fan named themselves Nick Frost on Russian social media site VK, where they posted their threat (thanks, DualShockers).
These demands include adding Russian language support for the upcoming FPS game, not saying mean things about Russia, and unbanning them on the game’s Discord because the ban was unfair.
At the end of 2022, GSC Game World said one of their team members died in a battle against Russian soldiers.
GSC posted a statement on Twitter saying warning fans that they might start seeing Stalker 2 leaks soon and requesting they avoid watching them. The team didn’t refer to the poster by name or their specific demands, only saying “a community from a Russian social network” hacked an application the studio uses and obtained sensitive information.
“This is not the first attempt to hack and leak our data, including personal information,” the team said on Twitter. “We have been enduring constant cyberattacks for more than a year now. We have faced blackmail, acts of aggression, hacks, attempts to hurt players and fans, and attempts to damage the development process or the reputation of our company. We are a Ukrainian company and… have experienced things that are much more terrifying. Attempts to blackmail or intimidate us are completely futile.”
If you want an official look at Stalker 2, you won't have to wait much longer. GSC is attending the 2023 Game Developers Conference and will showcase an exclusive look at Stalker 2 during a talk about next-gen game development.
