The Stalker trilogy is on Xbox and PS4 now, as GSC Game World hopes players have time to get through the FPS games before Stalker 2’s release. GSC Game World made the announcement and surprise launch during the March 2024 Xbox Partner Showcase and told Xbox Wire a bit about the work that went into rebuilding three PC games from the ground up for consoles.

GSC Game World has a final Stalker 2 release date now

“Stalker has been a PC franchise for a long time,” GSC’s Zakhar Bocharov said. “The key priorities were concentrated around adapting the experience for consoles as a whole (including, but not limited to, native controller support for console interfaces). We created everything from scratch, ensuring that the game was both easy to control and comfortable to play.”

Some of the examples Bocharov gave include the new weapon wheel that makes selecting your equipment easier, improvements to navigation, and better aiming, so you don’t feel at a disadvantage for playing with a controller instead of using a mouse and keyboard. He also thanked porting studio Mataboo for their help, as the GSC team dealt not just with Stalker 2’s development, but the ongoing war in Ukraine as Russian forces invaded.

“Considering the cult status of the series, it was logical to let players experience the original games [ahead of Stalker 2’s release],” Bocharov said. “We consider these releases as finally closing a long-existing gap; all the games from the series will finally be available on all intended platforms.”

The trilogy includes Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl; Stalker: Clear Sky; and Stalker: Shadow of Prypiat. You can buy the whole thing for $39.99 or individual games for $19.99. If you're on PC and haven't played Stalker before, you can grab each game for roughly $5.
