Developer Nightdive Studios has announced the Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster release date as February 28, 2024. That day will see the classic first-person shooter come to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch – talk about making a game widely available!

Dark Forces originally came out on February 28, 1995, so it’s been a while for the Star Wars title and its protagonist Kyle Katarn, who went on to become a staple of the Star Wars universe and starred in several other video games and novels throughout the years. In Dark Forces, Kyle must stop the Galactic Empire’s Dark Trooper project that seeks to develop a series of powerful and lethal battle droids that could destroy the Rebel Alliance.

You’ve read that right, fans of The Mandalorian on Disney+ – this is the original source of those badass droids Moff Gideon used in the second season of the show. Kyle Katarn may also have been one of the inspirations for Cassian Andor from the Disney+ show named after him as well as the Rogue One movie. Yeah, this is a Star Wars classic!

Nightdive’s remastered version of the title runs in resolutions up to 4K at 120FPS, features full gamepad support, improved textures, lighting, and rendering, and all fourteen original levels of the game.

Gameplay-wise you can expect a typical first-person shooter for the age, which includes some light puzzling alongside the shooting and brawling, for which you’ve got ten different weapons at your disposal. You’ll also find power-ups strewn throughout the levels to help you out with shields and new ammunition. Alright, it’s basically Doom. A boomer shooter, as we apparently call them now.

Thanks to GameSpot for scouting this one.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster joins a growing catalog of video games releasing in 2024 you can look forward to.
