Street Fighter 6 sales crack three million copies
Capcom announced that Street Fighter 6 sold three million copies as of January 3, 2024. It was launched on June 2, 2023, so it needed almost exactly half a year to reach this milestone. The developer stated that this success brings the total number of sales for the entire Street Fighter series, which has been around since 1987, to over 52 million.
Back in October 2023, Street Fighter 6 stood at 2.5 million units sold. Though we don’t know when Street Fighter 5 crossed the three million sales milestone, we do know that it took the title four years to sell four million copies – from that perspective, it looks like Street Fighter 6 is on a fantastic pace.
The developer credits its investment into the competitive scene as well as continuous content updates and collaborations with helping to grow Street Fighter 6’s sales globally. It mentioned further that the title’s triumph at The Game Awards 2023, where it was crowned best fighting game of the year, helped people recognize the game’s excellence. GLHF’s resident fighting game expert Dave Aubrey agreed, giving his own best fighting game of 2023 award to Capcom’s offering.
Among the crossovers and collaborations with other IPs that helped Street Fighter 6 grow was an event in popular battle royale game PUBG and a skin release in Fortnite. WWE’s Zelina Vega even cosplayed as a Street Fighter 6 character during one of her appearances to promote the game.
Street Fighter 6 already proved to be very popular at launch, dwarfing the player numbers of its competitors on PC.
Street Fighter 6 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
