The Tekken series is home to one of gaming’s most dysfunctional families, and now we’ve got a better look at Tekken 8 playing on the PS5.

The trailer features Kazuya and Jin fighting on a coast amid a raging storm, which just might be caused by their otherworldly devil abilities – or global warming, who knows.

The footage is using real-time rendered graphics captured from a PS5 system, though that certainly doesn’t mean we should expect every battle in Tekken 8 to have near-photorealistic raindrops pouring down the character’s faces.

While the entire trailer does not appear to be what actual gameplay will look like, thanks to some overly cinematic shots that give the game away, it does look like the combat in this trailer is what representative of the real thing, and that’s very exciting indeed.

Daddy Kazuya lays the smackdown on his son Jin at first, before Jin executes something similar to Tekken 7’s Rage Art, featuring a devil wing poking from his body, before downing Kazuya for good.

Not quite the equivalent of throwing him into a volcano, but certainly good enough for now. Seems that Heihachi’s parenting tactics have unfortunately been passed down to Kazuya, and the cycle continues.

We still don’t have a confirmed release date for Tekken 8, but it should be launching in 2023, likely shortly after the June 2 release date of Capcom’s Street Fighter 6. 2023 is set to be a huge year for fighting games, and we can’t wait to see how the competitive scene adapts to these new titles.
