The Wolf Among Us 2 still in production, Telltale insists after layoffs
Telltale has confirmed claims by a former employee that substantial layoffs took place at the studio back in September 2023 in a statement made to Eurogamer.
Citing the difficult market conditions it’s currently facing, the studio stated: “We did not take this action lightly, and our commitment to storytelling and finding new ways to do so remains the same. We are grateful to everyone for their dedication along this journey, and we are working to support everyone impacted.”
Telltale’s biggest current project is The Wolf Among Us 2, which was recently delayed to 2024. The company insisted that the development of this game and other titles currently in production won’t be impacted by these measures: “All projects currently in development are still in production and we have no further updates at this time.”
The original Telltale closed down in 2018 and was then resurrected by a group of investors with some of the original developers joining the project and the studio’s IP being purchased as well.
The Wolf Among Us was one of the biggest hits of the old Telltale, being released between 2013 and 2014 in five episodes. The Wolf Among Us 2 was originally announced in 2017, but never finished due to the studio’s shutdown. After the resurrection of Telltale in 2019, the title was again announced to be in production. The creator of the comic series the game is based on recently surrendered the entire IP to the public domain.
Telltale’s latest release, The Expanse: A Telltale Series, received “generally favorable” reviews according to Metacritic, reaching a critic score of 76, though user score is a bit lower. You can read more about the game in our own The Expanse: A Telltale Series review.
