Throne and Liberty, an upcoming MMORPG from South Korean developer NCSOFT, will be published by Amazon Games in the Americas, Europe, and Japan, the two companies have announced.

NCSOFT, which has developed popular games like Lineage, AION, Blade & Soul, and Guild Wars, has been working on Throne and Liberty since 2011 under the name Lineage Eternal. Later it was renamed to Project TL before it finally became Throne and Liberty.

This long and troubled development cycle includes at least one complete rebuilding of the game, which seemed necessary after playtesters had given it devastating grades back in 2016. Things have changed for the better, though, as gameplay trailers and successful playtests of its current incarnation have shown. The final playtest ended on February 22, 2023, and it seems like local games media will get some time with the game on February 23, 2023.

Combined with the announcement of a global publisher this seems like a good indication of a release date being around the corner.

“Amazon Games is one of the most reliable partners for publishing massive live-service games globally, with proven expertise in operations, localization, marketing, and community support. For our next-gen flagship title, we’re confident they are the right publisher to bring Throne and Liberty’s inimitable value and its dynamic, immersive MMO experience to players around the world,” Moon-young Choi of NCSOFT stated in a press release.

It seems like Amazon’s success with the global launch of Lost Ark, another South Korean MMO, has not gone unnoticed in the country.

Here’s Amazon Games’ official description of the game:

Throne and Liberty is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that combines story-driven adventure and action combat. In Throne and Liberty, players enter a vast world with constantly shifting geographical and environmental features that change the course of play. Massive-scale player vs. player and player vs. environment combat are fundamental to Throne and Liberty. Players can transform into animals to soar through the air or explore the depths of the sea, and even tip the odds of battle in their favor by triggering powerful environmental effects, like solar eclipses or rainstorms.

Throne and Liberty will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
