Back when Mother Ostankya was announced as the next Legendary Lord of Kislev as part of the Shadows of Change DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3, fans of the game were debating whether she should get what would certainly have been the goofiest mount option in the entire title – the Chicken-Legged Hut.

This magical mobile building does technically have no connection to Mother Ostankya in the lore and instead belongs to the character Baba Yaga, which is based on the Slavic folklore character of the same name and with which Ostankya shares several characteristics. When we talked to game director Richard Aldridge about Shadows of Change at gamescom 2023, he explained the omission of the Chicken-Legged Hut with the fact that Baba Yaga and Ostankya simply were two different characters: “She is Mother Ostankya, she is not Baba Yaga. Sure, there are some similarities, but she is her own person. She doesn’t have that element of the lore, so that’s why you don’t see it.”

Oh, it's beautiful :: Creative Assembly / greenphoenix23 / Inu

While some fans mourned that decision, others were relieved about it, saying that a hut walking on giant chicken legs would look ridiculous anyways. That is undoubtedly true, but we are talking about Warhammer Fantasy here… not exactly a bastion of seriousness, is it?

No matter on which side of the fence you’re standing on, the Steam users greenphoenix23 and Inu have taken it upon themselves to add the Chicken-Legged Hut to the game anyways. That’s right, their newest mod, which is accessible on the Steam Workshop, adds the hilarious mount as an option to Mother Ostankya. It looks as glorious and over the top as you’d imagine it, which really makes it a perfect fit for Warhammer.

Creative Assembly is hard at work as well: Shadows of Change is getting a free content update to make it worth the high price and an update to Total War: Warhammer 3 on imbd has probably revealed some of the things we can expect in this context.
