Would you like to control an army of Lizardmen riding big dinosaurs into battle against a horde of undead pirates? Want to crush demonic forces of Chaos with brave warriors riding polar bears? In that case, the world of Warhammer Fantasy brought alive by Creative Assembly in Total War: Warhammer 3 is going to be your new favorite playground. Based on the tabletop war game by Games Workshop, this strategy game combining turn-based campaigns and real-time battles can rightly be described as one of the most ambitious titles of the genre ever conceived.

Interested in diving in? Then you’re in luck, for Total War: Warhammer 3 is off by 50% on Steam at the moment, hitting its lowest-ever price since being released. This Ogre-sized discount will be available until March 21, 2024, so you have a little time to mull it over – but not too long.

Greasus Goldtooth is the richest Ogre because he always buys things at the highest discount. For free, that is. And he doesn't buy them. In fact, he'd like your money and your goods. Now / Creative Assembly

Known for its spectacular battles, the Total War series excels at giving you the feeling of being a powerful and wise commander, putting you in charge of massive armies. Traditionally a historical series, its use of the Warhammer IP marked a big shift for the series – a wonderfully refreshing one. Alongside “regular” human infantry wielding pikes or crossbows you can order around and fight hordes of undead, dinosaurs, man-sized rats, ancient and intelligent dragons, demons, and other fantasy races and monsters. Add to that flying units and powerful magic to be unleashed and you’ve got a Total War experience like no other.

Something special about Total War: Warhammer 3 is how it’s built on the foundations of its two predecessors in the trilogy. Each of these games focused on different areas of the Warhammer Fantasy world, which is roughly based on our own. However, a mode called Immortal Empires available in Total War: Warhammer 3 combines all of that content into the biggest Total War map ever made – the world, quite literally, is yours to take in this game.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is also not quite finished yet – support with free updates and DLC is ongoing, fleshing the game out with even the tiniest ounce of lore the developers can squeeze out of the material published by Games Workshop. What’s more, the latest game has greatly expanded our knowledge of some parts of the setting, such as the Chinese-inspired nation of Grand Cathay, which never got a detailed description in any of the army or story books.

Next up for Total War: Warhammer 3 is the release of the Thrones of Decay DLC, an expansion that is highly anticipated among fans. It will expand the factions of the Empire, Dwarves, and the Daemons of Nurgle – and we should be hearing details on this very soon, because the developer has already added the new DLC to Steam’s internal database.

Total War: Warhammer 3 – Thrones of Decay will bring a free Legendary Lord
