Update 3.1 for Total War: Warhammer 3, which was released today, added Harald Hammerstorm as a free Legendary Hero. He’ll be available for the Warriors of Chaos and follows in the footsteps of Ulrika Magdova, who was added during the release of Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs.

He was supposed to be revealed during today's Warhammer Skulls showcase, but since he's already playable in the game the cat's out of the bag.

Harald Hammerstorm, also known as Harry the Hammer, was one of the first characters ever created by Games Workshop during the first edition of the tabletop game and was considered to be the symbolic embodiment of Warhammer due to his signature weapon before the creation of Sigmar Heldenhammer, who took over that position. Hammerstorm is a Chaos Champion, who is especially adept at dealing with the undead.

Harry comes with Foe-Seeker, Heroic Killing Blow, and The Hammer of Harry (an explosion dealing magical damage) as active abilities. He causes Fear and Terror, has Encourage, Hide, Unbreakable, and Wounds. As for unique passive abilities, he has Bane of the Dead, which literally removes the Undead trait from nearby enemies, and Bane Shield, which has an aura lowering the base weapon damage and armor-piercing damage of affected adversaries.

According to the recently revealed Total War: Warhammer 3 roadmap, update 3.1 is going to be the last scheduled patch before the arrival of Shadows of Change, a DLC pack focusing on the factions of Tzeentch, Kislev, and Grand Cathay. If you’re interested in some educated guesses on who might be featured in that expansion, you can find our predictions here.

In addition to the free Legendary Hero, the update brings the Chaos Dwarfs as a new endgame crisis to the Immortal Empires campaign, makes lots of gameplay and balance adjustments, and adds seven new Regiments of Renown to the game to bolster the unit rosters of Total War: Warhammer 3’s starting factions.

You can claim the free Legendary Hero through your Creative Assembly account.
