Total War: Warhammer 3 now lets you play with up to 65,534 mods
Update 3.0 for Total War: Warhammer 3 has brought lots of exciting changes and free content to the strategy game – alongside the highly-anticipated Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC. Among an ocean of small adjustments to how the title plays is a technical change that lets you enjoy more mods at the same time than before: Indeed, you can now tune Total War: Warhammer 3 with up to 65,534 mods at one time, which is a great deal more than the previous limit of just 256.
People were actually running into that limit prior to the patch and had to delete some of the mods to make the game playable again. Creative Assembly explained on Discord that the old limit for pack files that were able to be loaded on game launch was set to 256 due to technical limitations many years ago, as the files were stored in 8 bit.
However, an upgrade to 16 bit storage has led to a massive expansion of files that can be loaded when you start the game, allowing you to add a lot more mods. The developers even added a message for anyone managing to get to the new maximum amount of pack files, telling them to reduce the number of mods – “just in case.”
Reaching those 65,534 mods is going to be quite the challenge, though, as the number of mods available on the Steam Workshop is currently just above 9,000 – while mods are available from outside the Steam Workshop as well, it’s a good idea to assume that the entire number of mods in existence for Total War: Warhammer 3 is currently below the amount you can possibly load.

Make sure to always read through the creators’ notes when adding mods to your collection, as some of them will require other mods to function or clash with other content packages, leading to issues.
