Creative Assembly has released another small update for Total War: Warhammer 3. Hotfix 4.0.4 is the fourth of its kind that has been published after the release of the Shadows of Change DLC in an attempt to fix long-standing issues with the game and earn back trust from the community.

Shadows of Change had not been received well by players of the strategy game. Many members of the community thought that the content included in the pack was not worth the asking price of $24.99 USD, which was on par with the Forge of the Chaos Dwarf DLC from earlier in the year.

The Blue Scribes are a Legendary Hero unit included in Shadows of Change / Creative Assembly

While many players accepted the stark increase in price between Champions of Chaos (sold for $15.99 USD) and Forge of the Chaos Dwarf due to the latter containing an all-new playable race, the expectation was that this was a one-off deal and the DLC price would revert back to what it was before. Much drama ensued and Creative Assembly’s reaction of pinning the price increase on inflation and rising production costs did not help things – the community even perceived one statement as an indirect threat of stopping support of the game.

Cooler heads seem to have prevailed on both sides by now and the development team is hard at work to rebuild the bridge between itself and the community with these hotfixes. Usually, only one of these follows up on an expansion release, leading to long waiting times between updates, but this is already the fourth small patch after the latest DLC drop.

Total War: Warhammer 3 hotfix 4.0.4: patch notes

  • Fixed Wood Elves not having unique outposts in notable capitals e.g. Altdorf, Castle Drakenhof (unique outposts have also been added to Wei-Jin and Zharr-Naggrund).
  • Fixed Nakai's long victory reward (increased Hero recruitment rank) not functioning properly for his faction.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the AI from assigning tasks to units during the deployment phase when defending a settlement. This was being caused by the units' strength being significantly lower than their maximum, causing the game to softlock.
  • Belegar's unique grudge to re-capture Karak Eight Peaks now gives the reward it did in the initial release (An Oath Fulfilled).
  • Fixed an issue where Gotrek and Felix would gain their magic items multiple times when first spawning.
  • Fixed the Chaos Dwarf occupied versions of the Empire Fort buildings not displaying correctly in the building browser, along with the amount of corruption they spread per level.
  • Fixed the Teleport button in the Ultimate Scheme tooltip/popup not showing as inactive when teleportation was not possible. It now also correctly shows the cost of teleporting in the tooltip.
  • Fixed the Speed & Malice skill not applying to Doom Knights of Tzeentch units.

Creative Assembly is currently undergoing restructuring after Sega surprisingly canceled Hyenas, the extraction shooter the studio had been working on.
