The Shadows of Change DLC trailer for Total War: Warhammer 3 has finally revealed who’ll lead Kislev and the Daemons of Tzeentch in the expansion: Mother Ostankya, a powerful and creepy witch, is going to be a new Legendary Lord for Kislev, while The Changeling commands troops in the name of Tzeentch, impersonating other lords to sow chaos.

They’ll face the powerful intellect and sword of Yuan Bo, who had already been confirmed as the new Legendary Lord for Grand Cathay in a short story released ahead of the trailer, which you can find below.

The Shadows of Change faction leaders: Yuan Bo, Mother Ostankya, and The Changeling / Creative Assembly

The Changeling

The Changeling, whose true face has likely never been seen by anyone but The Lord of Change himself / Creative Assembly

The Changeling doesn't seek traditional conquest, but wants to plant as many cults in enemy cities as possible to make his patron's schemes succeed. Small plans lead into bigger conspiracies, which enable The Changeling to make allies turn on each other. Victory will be at hand for The Changeling if he manages to execute the Ultimate Scheme during a campaign.

Mother Ostankya

Mother Ostankya is what Kislevite parents threaten their children with if they're being naughty / Creative Assembly

Mother Ostankya is a vengeful old crone, collecting forbidden hexes she can bring back to her Witchs' Hut and combine into even more powerful incantations and magic.

Yuan Bo

Yuan Bo, the Jade Dragon, Master of the Meteor Wind, and Administrator of the Realm / Creative Assembly

Yuan Bo's mastery of magic and statecraft allows him to use the Wu Xing Compass in new ways, rush the construction of buildings, and use his influence to force neutral factions into allowing him to march his armies through their territory without any diplomatic consequences.

Also included in the DLC on the side of Tzeentch is a new Legendary Hero – or should we say heroes? – in the form of the Blue Scribes. P'tarix and Xirat'p, as they are named, wander through the world, eternally squabbling amongst each other, in search for fragments of Tzeentch, all the while binding and recording all sorts of sorcery and secrets into parchment. Results are often quite spectacular when they enter the battlefield, for they tend to cast spells at random from their large collection of scrolls.

Alongside these characters, Shadows of Change comes with a dozen new regular units.

Total War: Warhammer 3 – Shadows of Change will be released on August 31, 2023. You can already pre-order the DLC starting today and getting a 10% discount. The DLC is priced in the same range as the Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC, costing $24.99 / £19.99 / 24.99€.

Shadows of Change will be launched alongside Update 4.0 for Total War: Warhammer 3, which is set to bring sweeping changes as well as another free Legendary Hero in Aekold Helbrass.
