Creative Assembly announced a release date for the free Total War: Warhammer 3 Shadows of Change content update, which will come to the game alongside Update 4.2 on February 22, 2024, and detailed Kislev’s additions in the patch.

Combined with the already revealed content upgrades for Grand Cathay as well as the Daemons of Tzeentch, the developer hopes that this offering for Kislev will beef up the overall content that Shadows of Change delivers enough to justify the price point of the DLC. Altogether this update adds 14 content pieces to the expansion.

As revealed previously, Kislev will get access to a brand-new Lore of Magic, the Lore of the Hag, to flesh out Mother Ostankya and her fellow Hag Witches. Furthermore, Kislev’s Tzarina Katarin will finally get an ice sled as a mount option.

The Lore of the Hag is very focused on curses and blessings, providing debuffs and buffs in the spells’ areas of the effect with enemies being affected by the former and allies of the latter. This gives the Lore of the Hag a fairly unique character in the game, since no other magic type does this.

The Druzhina is a new type of generic lord, a lesser noble from rural areas of the country. They carry axes and bows to be able to fight in a hybrid style fit for their lands and can provide buffs to ranged units as well as replenish their ammunition. They are perfect to lead frontier forces on patrol in the wild and forested regions of Kislev.

The Golden Knight, which had already been leaked through IMDB, joins Kislev as a new Legendary Hero. Naryska Leysa is the Ice Queen’s foremost champion and bodyguard. This role enables her to enhance the durability of other lords and heroes on the battlefield and inspire them. The more damage Naryska takes, the more determined units near her become to fight on. She’s also an adept duelist who can take fights with other melee characters head-on.

As for infantry, Kislevite Warriors will reinforce the fight on the frontlines. They’re a low-tier unit wielding halberds, which may not sound very exciting, but fills an important hole in Kislev’s early roster. With their anti-large capabilities, they become an important screen for missile troops.

A huge surprise is the final addition for Kislev, the Frost Wyrm. Seemingly based on the design of the Cathayan dragons, this monster lacks the wings necessary to fly, but is quite nimble on its feet on the ground. It slows down any enemies it bites, making it adept at hunting down prey. What’s more, Katarin and her Ice Witches can actually use the Frost Wyrm as a mount.

That is one spiky beast / Creative Assembly

As a special treat, Creative Assembly will release another free eBook written by Black Library author David Guymer next week, titled “Things in the Wood” and focusing on Mother Ostankya.
