Total War: Warhammer 3 – Thrones of Decay DLC factions will be available separately

Creative Assembly has finally broken its long silence on the highly-anticipated Thrones of Decay DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 and stated that detailed reveals for the next expansion are set to begin next week. Ahead of this stage, however, the developer communicated some changes made to the way the new content is sold.

Players can purchase the Thrones of Decay DLC as a single package – just like they have done it previously – at a price point of $22.92 USD. However, for the first time in Total War history, the factions contained within Thrones of Decay will be available for separate purchase as well. That means if you never play as Nurgle anyways, you could just buy the fresh Empire and Dwarves content, or vice versa.

Buying a single faction’s content will cost $8.99 USD and you’ll get a 15% discount on any part of the DLC you don’t own yet, so it’ll be cheaper to complete your collection down the line.

Creative Assembly called this a “one-time change” – so there’s no guarantee that future content will be sold in the same way. It sounds like an experiment in order to gather feedback after the poor reception of the Shadows of Change DLC. 

“Back when we got started with production on Thrones of Decay close to a year ago, we had envisioned shipping this as one big package just like we did with Shadows of Change, and after talking with many of you these past few months we recognise that these large sized, higher priced packs aren’t always what you’re looking for,” Creative Assembly wrote in a blog post. “So, we’ve decided to do something different just for Thrones, and used this extra time to help show that we were listening to what you had to say.”

“This is a new approach for us, and something that we’ll have plenty to learn about as we do it, but we think it’s the right approach and something that we feel we can do in response to the pricing changes that we brought in late last year. Giving you more choices about the ways in which you can access all-new content is important to us, and we’re keen to listen in on the conversations that will rise from the back of this news,” the company continued.

Creative Assembly also revealed that pre-production on the next DLC has already begun – so despite the recent layoffs at the company, the future of Total War: Warhammer 3 looks secure.

Thrones of Decay will bring additions to Nurgle, the Empire, and the Dwarves as well as a free Legendary Lord for everyone.
