Fans of RTS games should mark November 17, 2023, on their calendars, as this is going to be the release date of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin. Developed by Frontier, it’ll be launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, containing a narrative single-player campaign as well as several multiplayer and co-op modes.

Aside from the release date announcement during Opening Night Live at gamescom 2023, it has been confirmed that the Nighthaunt, undead servants of Nagash, will be the third playable faction in the game. They’ll join the Stormcast Eternal and the Orruk Kruleboyz in their struggles in the Realm of Ghur. That leaves one more faction slot open, so Age of Sigmar fans can now place their bets on who’ll complete the line-up.

The Nighthaunt will be one of the campaign's antagonists as well as a playable faction in multiplayer and Conquest Mode.

The Nighthaunt are going to be a swarm faction, trying to overwhelm their enemies with hordes of undead apparitions. Here is the full list of Nighthaunt units players can expect to find in-game:

  • Chainrasps
  • Craventhrone Guard
  • Hexwraiths
  • Myrmourn Banshees
  • Grimghast Reapers
  • Knight of Shrouds
  • Guardian of Souls
  • Awlrach the Drowner
  • Mourngul

The third reveal around Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin at gamescom is the title’s Conquest Mode, a repeatable and ever-changing single-player challenge mode. You take on a series of procedurally generated challenges in the form of 1v1 skirmishes against the AI fraught with modifiers like time limits, reduced vision ranges, or high unit speeds. As players win match after match, their high score rises and they can challenge the final battle of the run. In-between they can choose between bonuses and additional lives.

With the Nighthaunt joining the fun, only one more faction remains to be revealed.

We’ve already seen quite a bit of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin in our first preview and interviewed Principal Designer Sandro Sammarco about the title. In our latest hands-on preview with the RTS, we got to battle things out with the newly announced Nighthaunt in one of the game’s campaign missions.
