Developer The Astronauts has released a roadmap for the ongoing development of Witchfire, its grimdark first-person shooter currently in Early Access. It seems like Early Access is planned to last between one and one-and-a-half years, depending on any potential hiccups. Major updates will be launched every two months, the team hopes.

The crew didn’t go into full detail for some of the content pieces it’s planning, because it wants to keep some surprises from players, and emphasized that plans can and will change in the future, so the roadmap will get updated accordingly.

Witchfire is a dark first-person shooter that recently launched in Early Access / The Astronauts

For now, here’s what The Astronauts plan on adding to Witchfire ahead of release:

  • Four additional maps for a total of six.
    • Two big maps, one small map for a custom gameplay mode, and one big raid map with its own rules.
  • At least four additional bosses for a total six.
  • At least 24 additional enemy types for a total 46.
  • At least 24 additional weapons for a total of 31.
  • At least 13 additional magic items for a total of 24.
  • At least eleven additional spells for a total of 20.

In addition to this list, The Astronauts plan on adding an undetermined number of traps, events, calamities, NPCs (with the first of those coming soon), and two secret content types.

The first major update is set for a launch in late November or early December 2023. Aside from this, priorities for the developers include the rebalancing of the difficulty, which many players felt was too harsh, a rework of calamities, and improvements of arcana to give it a little boost.

In the long term, more worldbuilding, improving the first hours of the game, and adding some more mechanical features are also on the agenda.
