With WWE 2K24 being revealed, comes the announcement that several fan-favorite match types are making their return to the series after a decade of absence.

As revealed on 2K’s social media today, WWE 2K24 will feature the following returning match types:

  • Special Guest Referee (last seen in WWE 2K14)
  • Ambulance Match (last seen in Raw vs Smackdown 2010)
  • Casket Match (last seen in WWE 2K15)
  • Gauntlet Match (last seen in WWE 2K14)

Special Guest Referee matches let the player assign a wrestler as the referee of a match instead of a standard ref, and they have the option to control the referee in the match, counting pins, calling disqualifications, and perhaps cheating in one wrestler’s favor.

Ambulance and Casket matches are variations on the same gimmick, where the goal is to put your opponent inside either an ambulance or a casket depending on the match type.

Finally, Gauntlet matches see wrestlers compete in a series of one-on-one matches, with the winner staying on to wrestle the next opponent until all the opponents have been defeated. In its last appearance in WWE 2K14, only a maximum of three opponents were selectable, but hopefully, WWE 2K24’s version will expand that number.

Alongside this 2K has announced that this year’s Showcase mode will be themed around “40 Years of WrestleMania” and will see you recreate various historic matches from past WrestleManias from the first in 1985 to the modern day.

WWE 2K24 launches on March 8, 2024, for PC, PS5, PS4 Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, with deluxe edition owners getting three days early access.
