HoYoverse has announced the second closed beta test for Zenless Zone Zero, its upcoming urban fantasy action RPG. After delivering two immensely successful products in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, fans of the developer are awaiting the release of Zenless Zone Zero with much anticipation. While a release date for the title is not yet known, a selected few players will be able to dive into the adventure soon thanks to the newly announced test.

Interested players can sign up on the official website to be considered for a spot, which entails filling out a survey on their gaming habits as well as their interest in anime culture.

Zenless Zone Zero's second closed beta test is coming up / HoYoverse

We’ve been able to play the game earlier this year at gamescom 2023, which you can read about in our Zenless Zone Zero preview, but that particular build was over a year old, which means that it likely didn’t represent the experience as it is currently – that’s what the upcoming test will be for.

HoYoverse stated this closed beta will contain "a series of changes and content updates that include new stories and explorable areas, more playable characters, re-designed combat mechanics, as well as a thoroughly overhauled city with new, immersive urban gameplay. [...] In the upcoming closed beta, the city of New Eridu will be further revamped with a full-scale visual update based on the previous beta. The game’s track list will also be more modern, vibrant, and groovy. In addition, three new characters, each with their unique background and charm, will be coming to New Eridu to team up with players."

Combat animations and some battle mechanics seem to have been changed up as well. There will be a brand-new Perfect Assist mechanic, which HoYoverse says will make the game more friendly for beginners. "At the same time, it introduces a newly developed challenge mode – Hollow Zero, which not only serves as a significant setting in the story but also is sure to meet the expectations of veteran action game players in terms of combat experience," the description of the upcoming test continued.

Zenless Zone Zero will be released for PC, mobile devices, and – very likely – multiple consoles. A timeframe for the upcoming closed beta test has not yet been communicated.
