With the No. 1 pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, the Fever have selected South Carolina center Aliyah Boston.

Boston enters the league fresh off of an accolade-filled college career that peaked with a national championship in 2022. That season, she won numerous national player of the year awards and averaged a career-best 16.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Boston earned three All-American selections during her time with South Carolina, a run that included three straight Final Four appearances.

The Fever are coming off of a dreadful 5-31 season in 2022, the worst mark in franchise history. The team is led by first-year head coach Christie Sides, who was an assistant with the Fever from ’17 to ’19 and served as an assistant for the Dream last season.

Boston is the second South Carolina player ever to be selected with the No. 1 pick. The first was A’ja Wilson, who was picked by the Aces in 2018. She’s since won two MVP awards and led the Aces to a championship in ’22.
