Breanna Stewart Makes WNBA History With Unprecedented Hot Start to ’23 Season
Breanna Stewart is on pace to have her best season yet, having started her 2023 campaign in historic fashion.
After her latest performance against the Mercury on Sunday, the four-time All Star and two-time champion is now the first player in WNBA history to record at least 200 points, 100 rebounds and 40 assists in their first 10 games of a season.
She notched 28 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists in the 89–71 win over Phoenix for her seventh double double of the young season. Before this afternoon’s win, Stewart was already averaging 23.4 points, 10.4 boards, 3.7 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.8 steals per game in her first nine appearances with the Liberty. If the season ended today, she’d finish with career highs in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.
The 28-year-old power forward has led her squad to a 7–3 start and is already looking to be in good shape to get her second MVP award. The Liberty are next slated to play the Atlanta Dream on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET where Stewart will look to remain on her historic pace.
