Aces’ Kelsey Plum Makes WNBA History With 40-Point Game vs. Lynx

She had her career high in scoring and made some league history in the process.

Kelsey Plum was on an absolute tear for the Aces during Sunday’s win over the Lynx. The 28-year-old dropped 40 points as Las Vegas improved to 17–2 on the year, becoming the first player in franchise history to score 40 in a single game.

Additionally, her remarkable 77.8% field goal percentage was the best in WNBA history during a 40-point outing, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

Plum was red hot from all over the court, knocking down 14-of-18 field goal attempts, including 6-of-9 three-pointers. The 40 points are the highest tally of her career. Prior to her 40-point outing, Plum’s previous season high in scoring was 26 points.

With Sunday’s win, the Aces clinched a berth to the Commissioner’s Cup title game, the WNBA’s in-season tournament. Las Vegas has won eight of its first nine Cup games, setting itself up for a matchup with the Sun or Liberty in the championship game. 

On the year, Plum, who won last year’s WNBA 3-Point Contest, is averaging 17.8 points, 4.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 36.1% from three-point range.

Plum’s 40-point game is the seventh in the WNBA this season. There have never been more than three such games in previous seasons across league history. Also having accomplished the feat this season are Breanna Stewart (twice), Rhyne Howard, Jewell Loyd, Arike Ogunbowale and DeWanna Bonner.
